Possible... C33 Laurel front bumper on a U12
« on: Dec 9, 2005, 12:20PM »
I have been thinking and trying to research the possibilty of a C33 Laurel front bar being a close fit on a U12.

According to my RNU12 brochure, the U12 sedan and hardtops are 1690mm wide.

All the info I have found tells me the C33 Laurel is exactly the same width.  It also uses much the same front lights layout (cornering and headlights).  They were designed at the same time as well...

I think C33 Laurel front bars will be a distinct possibilty on the U12.  But we need to check somehow.  I'm trying to get some measurments of the bars now (aftermarket and stock C33 bars).

as a fellow front bar customiser, i'd say its a definate possibility.  unfortunately measurements alone won't be able to help you out, because there's quite a few things you need to take into consideration other than size.  really, you have to get a laurel front bar and just do your best to fit it on

things to consider:

Curveture/lines - Is the curve of the front bar the same?  if "angle" is wrong, then you'll get gaps at the sides and maybe in the middle

Width of top of the bar - If the width is different at the top of the bar is different, then again, you'll get gaps. (from the pic, it looks a little small)

Bumper support bar - this is the kicker. because its chassis related, modifying it would definately be illegal, so getting a direct fit might be difficult.  but you might get lucky

hope this helps, i ran into all these problems, but got around them by modifying the bar

It doesnt stick out infront as far as the U12 bars, but its not a huge differance.

dont like that cause it doesnt stick out the front of the car enough. i've looked into this before, leopard bars are also an option. its just very ahrd to find this sort of shit in australia. i was talking to fraz about 18 months back about getting leopoard and laurel bars and he said they're really hard to find there too.

yeah i think that looks chunky ass... but over done maybe.  If you had skyline lights at the rear, and a different rear bar i would almost mistake it as a 4 door skyline.

Well, I can't even get a fucking factory bluebird aero bar shipped from NZ at the moment.  Andy can't get ANYONE to ship the bar and two strut brace for under $400... air frieght.  So getting a bar from NZ would be a bad idea anyway.

No-one will touch it shipping wise (on a boat) as its not big enough.

if its the real deal, then i rekon ud need to to sumthin about ur skirts so that it all flows nice and even. would be good to see that front on a trx! also, if u resray it that same white - or ur car might just be a shade darker white?!  :P

anywho, on first looks, it jumps right out at ya! still in two minds about if i like it or not (in the mean time, me ass is killin! - from sittin on the fence!  :P )

PS: cheers for help with organising the cruise comin up! will leave it in ur capable hands for meetin point in geelong!

All I can say is that, bloody hell, that laurel in the first pic looks a heap like a u12. Much more on the 'vip' side? Hmm. I wonder if there are other interchangeable goodies.

I say, just get a Laurel bar... damn near any bar will fit any car.

I once got a bar designed for an n14 pulsar to fit onto an X2 Excel sprint...

As long as the top line of the bar is similiar it can be done...

If its too wide - Cut and rejoin it

if the angles around to the guards are out, you just cut a little slot into the corners of the bar and open/close it as you need.

If you have a little bit of fibreglass/bogging skillz.. you'll be fine!

I'm not scared of dying I just don't want to

If I stopped lying, I'd just disappoint you!!!!!

The C33's are pillarless as well... as far as I'm aware they share exactly the same rear windows and little bits around there.  I also suspect door trims might be interchangable with some light mods.

Are they based on the U12 chassis ? But then again someone told me a while ago nissan based alot of cars on the same chassis..

and bdw that better be a nissan :P because i have absolutely NFI what that car is...It's the first time i've seen it, and it does look pretty square like the pintara, so i don't see why not...

That looks awesome! How hard would it be to find parts from a laurel?

Very hard in AUS, best bet would be to find a front cut.
A guy came into the servo the other with a C33 Laurel, had a chat to him, he showed me the interior etc, nice cars.
I think it'd fit with minimal modification. My U13 JDM Attesa Series 2 front bumper fit perfectly on my U13 AUS LX, even though it actually curves out A LOT MORE than my standard bumper.

If they don't come in stock manual, what gearbox, pedals etc do people put in them? Skyline ones?
