Rear Drive Shafts
« on: Feb 1, 2009, 01:19PM »
Just been advised from my recent service that the rear drive shafts need to be replaced.

Has anyone had this done and how much?  Re-build or just replace?

Any help appreciated!!!

Cheers

I think you'll have more luck with GTiR shafts mate.

Are he shafts themselves stuffed, or just the joints?  As it may be better to have them rebuilt with new CV's.

Mechanic did a service and said that when he turned the tailshaft there was a bit of movment before it turned the wheels.  So hopefully it's just the joints.  Not sure if a bit of movement is normal or not?

Would like to find out a bit more info before I take it somewhere to get fixed.  Also whether it's an easy fix or will cost mega $$

Probly just a bit of backlash in the diff, i wouldnt worry about it unless the cvs are clearly noisy sloppy or the boots are split.
