want to get around 180kw at the wheels
« on: Jan 16, 2007, 12:16PM »
does anyone know the mods & costs involved in getting about 180kw at the wheels out of an attesa.

mines a manual, large FMIC, 3" inch exhaust to dump, K&N filter, electronic boost controller (13psi), everything else is stock.

last time i got it dyno'd it was about 130kw. i think its about 135kw with the boost wound up a bit.

it goes ok. but you just want to go that little better. ive G-tech it and get around 13.9 quarter and about 6 sec to 100.

Sounds like something is wrong. I got 133AWKW with only 13 PSI, everything was pretty much standard. Im expecting around 180-200 kw when I get my final tune done. To get this I will have:

Forgies and full rebuild (Not needed to make the power but the engine was rebuilt about a year ago so I had the forgies put in.
600x300x75 FMIC
3 inch mandrel exhaust
3 inch mandrel piping from AFM to Turbo
Z32 AFM
Nismo 550cc injectors
Garret GT2871R on GTiR manifold
Full dyno tune

With the forgies I am able to run a bit more boost, but thats the only advantage really.

The biggest problem for me was the injectors and AFM. You cannot tune a standard U13 ECU. It needs a daughterboard of some type or you need a full aftermarket computer system. The cheapest way I found was have a daughterboard installed and have that tuned. That way you keep the standard computer and everything looks stock, nearly. Should be getting dyno tune either this weekend or the first weekend in feb. I will let ya'll know how it goes.

Edit: Forgot I also have a walbro 450HP fuel pump.

Your next step is going to be a bigger turbo, and the mods necessary to deliver enough fuel to support the higher flow namely; bigger injectors, bigger fuel pump, bigger AFM, and an aftermarket EMS system + tune to tie it all together.

After this I would look at cams and forged internals (so you can run higher boost) etc... I think this would be more then sufficient to achieve 180awkw (being a manual also helps). But I have only read about these mods, so perhaps someone who has actually done them will be able to give you a better idea.

EDIT: Beat me to it :(

yeah when i meant 135kw i meant at the wheels.
i think thats a reasonable expectation from the mods i have done.

so your looking at easy $3500 to do those mods: injectors, pump, AFM, turbo.

$1500...

IMO save a little more so you can afford a computer, fuel pump, injectors and a tune.

550cc nismo injectors x4 = $600-800 depending where you buy from

ECU = anywhere from $800 installed for a piggyback to a few thousand for a standalone. (for 180awkw a standalone would proberly be overkill)

Fuel pump = $400ish installed go for a bosh or walbro but makesure its not a cheep china copy.

with a good tune that should get you a bit more power, then next thing on agenda should be a larger turbo.

You dont need to pay that much for the computer. It cost me $70 for the chip and $100 to install. Now all I have to pay for is the dyno tune. Hint: If you do the as me mods as me, you might be able to 'borrow' my map. ;)

so you still have a std dump pipe correct? If so, get rid of it and replace it with a 2.5"/3" aftermarket dump. you will easily free up 10kw minimum at the wheels by doing this.

Make sure you have the capacity in your fuel system first, ie pump and injectors.

Apart from tuning, cams will be best bang for the buck.

get a bikirom/PLMS daughterboard, get it on a dyno and have someone tune it.

If you're not doing around 170-200kw at the wheels, you either have a crap tuner or a tired motor/shot turbo.

SSS are you saying that 170-200 awkw could be obtained from the car with the mods he has + dump pipe + tune?

or is that with a T28 as well?

(I'm pretty sure i know the answer but just checking)

i think from the mods I've done and a remapped ECU and tune i reckon 140kw should be achievable.

would any  decent exhaust place make up a dump pump or do you need to buy an aftermarket one.?

I've also looked into adding a PLMS daughterboard and one of NOSS's stage 3 chips.
http://www.plmsdevelopments.com/daughterboards.shtml
has anyone had one of these chips installed in their car ?? if so what difference did you notice.

fez any decent exhaust place will be able to make one up for you, it's just a matter of price. + the space to work in. I think SSS was looking at making them but found that there wasn't enough room to fit 3" only a 2.5" but this is from months back and he postponed the development of the dump pipe - things may or may not have changed.

Myself and Marty are going to talk to a local (WA) guy who's a brother of an antrx member and does custom exhausts etc. for very reasonable prices. So stay turned for that one... I'm sure he wouldn't mind making up a batch.

140kw is a very obtainable target with your current mods + decent tune (being a manual makes it that little bit easier).

I would be in on that too, 2.5" custom dump to clear the A/C ;)

I have a PLMS Daughterboard. Now my ECU is competely programable. Speed limiter is out to 480km\h. Rev limiter to 7500. I have no complaints.

Pete Liebig, the PL of PLMS. It hasnt actually been tuned properly yet. We did some quick road tuning the day he put it in, we are waiting for the Dyno to do the full tune.

LWSJSS,
if im in newcastle who would do the tune? or could PL just tune a chip to suit the mods i have.

with your PLMS board do you have 2 chips running on it. ie. can you select between different programs
ie. standard and modified.

Well if you did the same mods as me you could just have my map, Pete would send it to you already tuned I would think. If you did something else, I dont know who would tune it, you would have to ask Pete. Send him an email. Tell him Luke with the U13 reffered you to him, he'll know what your talking about then. ;)

First of all If anyone can get a good quality split dump at a reasonable price
I will be in also. As Budgie said AC is the problem and requires a very tight bend.
I still cant find a dump as good as C.E.S. Shame about the price.
Also with injectors I was told s15 injectors are a straight bolt on and at 440cc
is an improvement from stock u13 injectors at 380.
Has anyone done this upgrade and is it a straight bolt on.
I would imagine second hand s15 injectors should be easy to get.

You cant just put bigger injectors in. The computer thinks you still have 380 cc injectors but you have 440 so you end up with too much fuel, you need to modify the computer when you do injectors. Then whilst your doing that you'd be stupid not to put a bigger AFM. But yes, they do fit.

No problem,
already have a fully programmable computer running
a map sensor so I dont have any air flow meter restrictions.
Just wanted to know if s15 injectors were a straight bolt on replacement.
From the sounds of it they are which is good as they will be a hell of a  lot cheaper
than 550cc blitz items or similar.
