upgrade my turbo
« on: Sep 7, 2006, 11:28PM »
im looking at upgrading my turbo on my current U13 attesa.

what would be a good step without costing the earth, ie. get mine flowed etc. or get a T28 etc.  $$$$$

best bang for your buck is definitely a t28, GTiR t28 if you can find one :)

should be able to find a T28bb for around $450 or a gtir t28 for 500ish. You'll definitely feel a big difference going from a t25g

yeah sweet, if you can find out that would be great.

my current T25G is only 2 years new, as when i bought the car the old owner had not let it cool down after driving and totally killed it.

If you look hard enough on various forums you can find them for that much.

the car is at the mechanics now getting the turbo done,
but he seems to think that grinding the block still won't make it fit, he's gonna try any way.

so can someone whos done the upgrade pm me or email me the company that did it
cheers,

heres the way he wanted to install it too

but the IC piping would have to been modified quite significantly

Interesting Marty...

I would avoid changing the IC piping as the factory setup in the HNU13 is pretty decent (location wise) already.

yeh, he's gonna attempt to grind bits off turbo and engine,
he's just worried that the oil/water reservoir can't be grinded too much, which is understandable :)
oh well we'll see how it goes today

Good job with the upgrade mate. I realy think the GT2871R will be the perfect turbo for the Attesa.

Damn you guys are your modding to your HNU13's. Mine needs some serious modding, I'm just too poor from hollidays and insurance to mod it :(

Let me know how the box handels the power.
I'm realy starting to wonder if they realy are as weak as people say, I know theres quiet a few GTiR's around with around the 300whp that have stock boxes, and the GTiR box is fairly similar.
But its obviously going to depend on the driver as well.

they took long enough but its finally finished.

haven't driven it hard yet, but in the short squirt up the road its so much quicker, as in the front of the car now lifts up slightly. I had to back out as it was round a corner too.

will get some vids up later when I have time :)

very nice indeed Marty.... shotgun a ride next time i see you.

After some uber quick calculations that gives ~245kw at the fly (with a 30% drivetrain loss) and that is even nicer :)

(174 / .7 = 248.5)

hehe...

Blue Line is Power (in HP) - read from the left hand y axis
Green Line is Torque (in Nm) - read from the right hand y axis

Peak Power is 232.2HP @ 6900 ~ 174kw
Peak Torque is 303Nm @ ~4500ish
Boost is 1.1Bar ~ 15-16psi

As I've already said to marty - i think the exhaust is letting him down, but that's still an awesome figure and he's happy with it. ;D

Would be interesting to see the boost curve over the whole rpm range, because with those modes I reckon 200kW should be attainable as well

hmm noticed the cams just then... should be over 200kw... drivetrain loss cant be that bad? i know the silvia ppl get around 230-240kw..

must be the dump + smaller exhaust...

Air fuel ratio
Apparently thats really good, a lot jump around quite a bit, but this one is pretty even

boost
I'm sure thats a reading of 1.14 bar on the side

their graphs are very confusing though.

had one of them ebay controllers on there,
but he changed it to a turbosmart one because the ebay one kept spiking and was inconsistent.

:-\  invest in a good EBC. ive got a greddy one and omg, it did WONDERS to the spool up time, even on my t25. seriously quick!  :D

just did a bit of reading on the gt2871r, what trim and exhaust housing did you get? these turbos apparently have about a 16-18psi efficiency range. nice!

just boost it up. i think thats why your not getting the higher power levels we all expected :) but get an ebc first, bleeders sarrrkkk

what are the specs on the cams as well? im very curious what your power will be, and then from there we can see how much drivetrain loss we get. even tho its an auto ....  :P
