hydraulic lifters taking a little bit to get the oil flowing through is likely, just covered in the recent post... http://www.antrx.com/smf/index.php/topic,18025.0.html
or maybe a rattle from the timing chain/tensioners if the above doesnt sound correct.

Hi Colby, I didn't think the 2L had a timing chain? just a belt and no hydraulic lifters either?
Cheers

yeah two litre has belt and solid lifters. so rules that out.

whats your oil level like?? last time it was changed??

only makes the noise when cold? no other time or it just goes down to a very low noise at temp??

Hi Craazy,
Thanks for your reply, the oil is full but it is due for a change but it is very very loud, sounds more than just tappet noise? (diesel loud) its only when cold once its up to temp its fine (no noise). I was thinking maybe a sensor or something? but I have only just got the car and I am not sure what sensors there are.
Thanks

If it's as loud as you're describing it sounds like a bottom-end knock, which is usually worn main or big-end bearings. Which means rebuild.

I'd get a mechanic to look at it ASAP.
