My First Rig
« on: May 21, 2008, 07:44PM »
Hey guys,

First of all what a great site! I picked up a manual GXE Pintara for my first car, its the silver/black two tone. The paints really shiny for a 20 year old car although all the usual dings and pings. Ive only done one MOD so far and that was hotplates. Next up is a DIY Turbo and going to cover the area with heat shield to hide it. Just looking for some cheap and easy mods to boost performance. Im not going to spend big on this car im already saving up for an R33 GTS-T

The only pics i have,

I picked this car up for $1500 and has recently had new radiator, clutch and starter motor new twin head exhaust.

Few nooby questions,

What do the instrument and illumination buttons do on the left of the steering wheel? I press these and see no obvious difference.

My side mirrors have some kind of rust on the actual mirror, is it easy to get new mirror and install considering the mirrors are electric?

[Edit]
Where do i buy this "Gregories handbook"

Cheers again

Welcome to the site!

The instrument illumination buttons are supposed to dim the backlighting in the gauge cluster.

Gregories manuals can be found at repco, autobarn or supercheap.

And the mirror glass can be replaced by an auto-glazier.

Seriously though, if your looking for a cheap performance upgrade and can do the work yourself put a CA18det in it. Youd probly be able to do it for 2 grand, get a cheap cooler, make all the piping and exhaust. Crank the boost a bit and youll be laughing. As long as you can swing a spanner and use a welder. Being a CA series engine they sit on the same mounts, not sure about the box though.

Ease up with the R33 comments guys,

Who cares if majority of them are cockheads, I know plenty that arn't and that's what matters. The same could be said for this R31 and our U12 pintara's, I've seen PLENTY of low life bludger scum driving around in some banged up u12/r31 because thats all they can afford.

My mate has an N/A R33, we've given it some work and it is actually a fun car to drive/be in.

My 2 cents and welcome to the forums.

Welcome mate,

turbo's aren't necessarily cheap... especially for the CA20. I second Jason's motion, if you want to turbo it I'd suggest using a different motor if you wanted cheap and easy.

How much is this "not wanting to spend big"? I'd personally put off spending until you get the r33.. what money you don't spend on the pinny that you do spend on the r33 is going to benefit you in the long run.

Just like to re-inforce the "don't waste your money on this car" idea.

Trust me, their not worth it unless you really like the car/pour alot of money into it.

No offense to R31 owners.

hey newby welcome to this great site for pintaras, ive got a 85 bluebird thats powered by a CA20 by efi and it goes a lot harder than my 2.4 KA2.4e its got a ported and flowed head 32/62reground cam, crank and fly wheel balanced and tuned lenth extractors and microtec computer controlled D4s its old but it kicks ass ,its up to you how you want to power it, be ca20,ca18det how big is your budget?good luck you have many choices ,the ca 20 does cop a lot of shit depends on what you want to use it for.  the things that have been done to this car i did not pay for ,the previous owner did , after reading about CA20's i wouldnt , good luck with your choices.

is it because they're bloated whales budge?

Weight of RB25DET skyline = ~1320kg
Weight of KA24E Pintara = ~ 1120-1220kg

Not sure if 100kg or so would account for a bloated whale? Considering the huge power difference...

Sorry for jacking your thread mate, it looks the goods!!

I find windsurfing more fun than sailing, not that I am into water sports though really. Oh did anyone just hear on triple J they had a segment about people having sex with animals, was a little wierd.

My car does have dead shock absorbers, they are practically non-existent. So my car is technically a boat in terms of turning, hitting bounces in the road (waves). She just rocks and rolls like a VN driving normally with good shock absorbers
