U13 Power steering pump.
« on: Jun 18, 2010, 02:31PM »
Hey guys.

I have had an issue for years where my bluebird power steering will work really well when the car is cold and I first start it, but as it warms up it does off. Sometimes it comes and goes, sometimes it seems to be engine rev related, but not always. In the past I have replaced the steering rack, this did not fix the problem. I have come to the conclusion that it is the power steering pump as my new bluebird had perfect power steering until I put my worked engine in it  ::)

I was hoping someone might be able to use the fast database to tell me whether a power steering pump from a N14 or N15 or possibly U13 Aus spec pump is the same. Hoping I can replace this part cheaply while my engine is out... again.

the pumps look real similar on the outside but the colour of the pumps are different between the u13 and n14 S2 but goto a jap importer should be able to pick one up cheap

but also there is that pressure switch at the firewall poss not that too?

Did you find a solutions to this problem? We have a U13 in the family that does the same thing and I am keen on finding what is the cause of it.

i used to work at a power steering specialist. sounds like it could be the switch, but depending on price, it might be worthwhile to get the pump pulled apart and inspected. could be a sticky relief valve. to get someone to put some new seals through a nissan steering pump shouldnt cost any more than $300. and they should have the expertise to diagnose the problem before costing you anything.

Yeah, I had someone look at it, the pump was rooted beyond repair. So I have picked up a new one, yet to put it on though.

Wont be for a few weeks, engine is out for a few reasons, this was one, but the main reason was the gearbox, waiting on parts from japan.

No, just doing a few things that require the engine out, gearbox, power steering pump, upgrading the turbo, water pump, knock sensor... there's a few other things aswell.

I got the steering rack re-built when my engine was out due to gearbox re-build.  Best $400 i've spent.
