350 chev valves!
« on: Jan 12, 2004, 11:52AM »
A few of my mates have worked 2 litre engines L20B and 2TG.  They both had major work done to their engines.  After porting and everything else, the last mod they did was getting 350 chev valves put it.  They said the valves gave the biggest performance out of all the eigine work!  There is no better way to get lots of air flowing than through V8 valves straight into the combustion chamber.

The L20B and 2TG both adopt the 2 valves per cylinder style.  Therefore leaving a heap of room for larger and oversized valves.  The Ca20e has the 2 valve set up and i guess probably could do the 350 valve set up.  The TRX motor would be harder to do a larger valve set up cuz there is an extra valve.  Still could be done but not to the oversized extent of a 2 valve set up.

Any ideas on cost pricing for that kind of engine work.  It would probably only work best with a heavily ported head and so on but eould definately be a good source for excellent naturally aspirated power.

Any ideas / extensions / price estimations???

I'm guessing it would be very expensive to do, because to my knowledge our engines are to a point very finely tuned..
As far as intake and exhaust valves go, i'm really not sure if it would work, or just hurt the engine.

But who knows, you may have stumbled onto the best atmo upgrade for the pintara?!?!?!

When i had my last escort 2l i had a heavily ported with wild cam head prepared. I was going 2 have 350Chev valves put in and it was going 2 cost around $250 from Gully Engineering in TTG Adelaide. However, there was a huge pit fall!!! at the same time my head work was being done there was another rs2000 having very similar work done except less porting and a lesser cam grind, except this bloke put 350Chev valves in. They fitted nicely, made the car ABSOLTELY FLOG compared 2 b4 the valves went in. After 4 months of driving the car began having problems, the head was removed and it was found that the head was cracked in almost every guide due 2 removing 2 much meat from the head!

It was very expensive 2 repair!

I decided against the mod myself and just got a three angle valve job done, much more reliable

Allows for more flow past the valves due to a "softer" transistion from the port through the valve seat to the combustion chamber.
I had a 3 angle valve job done on mine, once i have my intake manifold leak fixed i should be back up on power.

Cuz, they got their's done about 3yrs ago, they cant remember, and i thought it might be different with with a 90's model engine instead of a 70's and fuel injection and so on.

How much would a three angle walve job cost SSSGTR, it wouldnt work that well without a cam tho would it?

From memory i think it was $10 per valve. That is, they cut the seats on the valves and in the head.
Anything like this that aids engine breathing is always recommended; a cam helps the engine breathe.

So the 3 angle valve job seems like a relatively job for a mechanic and pretty cheap.  But i guess the labour cost comes into it a bit having to take the heap apart to do the work!!

Much power gain??? Total cost TRXadelaide???
