Geez that's alot of money!! Unfortunately I'll be spending close to $4000 tomorrow on a reco'd engine and new engine mounts. Why oh why do our engines have to be so god damn expensive?  :(

Not in VIC unfortunately, in fact it seems that TRX's sell at a higher price in VIC than any other state. At least that's what it seems like from my obervations.

Decided I may as well get it done so that I've got a car which I know isn't gonna have any engine troubles in the time I own the car, whereas knowing my luck I'd go out and a get another TRX or some other car and be faced with a similar problem.

Not trying to hijack your thread nissman.  :P

Yes 20psi does sound like the better option, but you've already got all that work done anyway SSSGTR, so your slightly infront  8)

Not really. I have a complete cylinder head sitting in my garage that i'm slowly working on between doing the solid lifters, my R32 brakes and a few other "little" things. It's just doing the labour yourself that saves a whole lot of cash.

Got the car back today, new engine just purrrs :)
Worked out to be $3080 for the reconditioned engine (not including labour, etc)

that was a low km engine...

may I add, that's for the R31 Pintara (probably easier to put in/take out engine, being RWD)

Was browsing Pavtek's website last night (www.pavtek.com.au); they are hi-po engine builders; and they had their price lists up for machining services......totaled up roughly what i'd need for the turbo motor and it came out to just over $1200 in machining services!
It did include crack testing everything, nitriding/linishing the crank, shotpeening/polishing the stock rods, full balancing etc.

I'd just like to say that Nissman's car hoots.  I've beaten TRX's before, but his thing had a lot of tow! We sort of had a race and i got absolutely toasted!!

My mate is getting his R31 (SVDR31) engine built by Pavtek at the moment.

I was going to wait and see what sort of work they do to his car and possibly get a performance re-build if  they were any good.

His car won't be on the road for about 2 months, so I'll get all the info once it's done.

I'm expecting (with all the right parts of course) my turbo engine buildup to take around 6 months, so i don't blow huge amounts of cash all at once, and so i can take the time to make sure everything is done 110% correct.
There will be some parts i'll be developing while working on the new engine, most notably a crank scraper to reduce windage losses from oil being spun at 6000rpm.
The crank scrapers will be available to everyone, NA or turbo, makes no difference, and should only go for about $90 ea but provide a gain in the region of 5-7% peak power by reducing windage loss in the sump.
The two diagrams on http://www.crank-scrapers.com home page explain how they work.
They kind of look like this:

and are attached between the block and the oil pan (sump).

tell me if im wrong but 3grand for an engine rebuild is bloody expensive in my books.. Maybe u getting chargd more in vic but it seems 2 be about $1200 here for a full recod motor. I hanv't found out about the KA24 yet but that was on the majority of cars, including my old escort 2l which needd bassically everything replacing!>

Do u have any idea what sort of power that motor of your will b pushing out Nissman! sounds hella sick!. i would have thought that 4 5k u could have gone turbo though??????

I'm sure you would have noticed already that most parts for the Pintara's are more expensive than other Nissan's, the engine is no exception. Also think about how rare these engines are in comparison to that of an escort 2L... the parts for the engine would probably cost heaps and the reconditioners can charge a shitload because there isn't a high demand on these motors.
