what car does noss want to buy this week?
« on: Dec 1, 2008, 09:45AM »
so this is an entirely self indulgent thread to distract me from my work.. most people know that i want to buy xx different car every other week, so i thought i'd start writing down some of the cars i want and then maybe, down the track, i might look back and cringe  ::)

every car i will be posting up will be a car i could actually afford if i spoke to the bank (i know cause i checked how much i can get from them to see if i can buy the first car i'm posting lol) but the other idea of this thread is to get the idea of buying a new car out of my system, save my money and finish my 492nd turbo manifold for my car and get it going.

feel free to reply and join in with what cars you want to buy.. or express your love or hate for my selection of automotive porn.

anyway.. i'll start it here.. i'll try to only post one a week.. but sometimes, sometimes i have weeks where i want to buy about 17 different cars :P here goes...

jaguar XK8 hnu12 pillarless hard top superleggera edition.

the one in particular i'm looking at is a black 97 model located in melbourne for the brilliant sum of $45k. so to start with, to get the thing it covers two of my favourite things.. buying a new car and going on an awesome roadtrip.. throw in 3rd favourite thing if you count spending money for no real reason at all! probably a touch expensive cause even though its freaken hot, its now 11 years old! but.. the fun part is it still looks virtually identical to the newer 2006-ish models (the only difference is in 2004 the grille was changed)

so why do i want a jag? to be honest, i thought jags were pretty ordinary wanker cars driven by company directors that are in a mid life crisis but still need room to fit their golf clubs in the boot.

then i drove one.

the car i drove belonged to my old boss, it was a burgundy 97 model convertible XK8.. its just so lush, so well built.. its just.. wow! i have to admit though the big round wooden bus steering wheel is a bit off putting, but then all steering wheels are like that after you have been using an aftermarket one. the sheer comfort and build quality, not to mention the smoothness of the 216kw 4 litre v8 engine.. it was just brilliant all round. i was cruising listening to jimi hendrix on the stereo with the roof down.. there isnt much else i can say.

it kind of sums up what i want in a car, comfortable, great music, quick but not too quick.. and the big bonus, it was absolutely silent. yeh so i'm getting old. get bent! :P

obviously the car in the pics is blue and isnt the one i'm looking at.. they were just nice pics :)

Quite nice cars, good build quality but the electrical system is a nightmare. Which is fine if you don't plan to put any aftermarket electronic accessories in it.

Nice and plush.

not my idea of a car but each to there own. one thing jags always had is style.
well my next car i'm thinking about getting is a u12 pintara ;D
some one was going to do it so i beat you all to it. well maybe i'm getting old or already old but i'm no pop.
as i am getting older i look at cars different. i have biult so may cars now.
I am in love with the attesa shape and handling, but i have shyed away for the simple reason is parts. is hard enough finding parts for the 60's and 70's cars now, i can see it being almost impossible in another 10 years to find attesa parts.
So i have come to the conclusion i will do a awd conversion to a pintara u12, unless i can get hold of that awd corsair in the next year.
well noss, your choice is not a bad one, as they do hold there value, and if you get the shit's with it you will more than likely get your money back.

i thought i'd add another car, i know its only a day since i posted the jag, but i really really want this one even more than the jag.. i've been waiting for 18 months for it to be approved under the SEVS import scheme.. and now its finally available and you guys are gonna think i'm off my tree but i dont care.

nissan cube the better than budgie's atessa edition

the nissan cube? yep, the nissan cube. so why? i dont know. i've never driven one (as will be the case with most of the cars i want) but its just.. different. you cant deny that. its 1.4 litres of fuel efficient near new cubism awesomness.

based on the nissan micra, this thing has heaps more style than the micra could ever possibly dream of. the micra to me, looks like something that came out of your ass, the cube on the other hand, looks like it came from domo kun's ass.. if there is anyone's ass nuggets you'd want to be riding in, it'd be his.

but dont get me wrong, i dont think the cube is shit (unlike the current micra, its really shit) its awesome.. have i said that enough yet? yes! awesome! to make things even more awesome, you can get a very sexy impul supercharger kit for the little beastie which brings its CR14DE engine up to a whopping 97kw.. ok, so i was a bit sarcastic with the 'whopping' part of the 97kw but keep in mind the car is just over 1000kg, which would give it a better power to weight ratio than a ka24e pintara.. sure pintaras aren't super quick, but in a car as small as the cube, it'd be heaps of fun! and dont forget the fuel efficiency part.. apparently the 1.4 litre engines in the cube only need a tiny 5.8 litres per 100km!

i was all set to buy a cube, they sell for between $13-23k depedning on the age, condition and spec level.. but i have gotten my ex's superhatch which is doing the job the cube would have been doing.

There's an old skyline that was running around on the cruisingbrisbane cruises a while back, had a RB25DET in it, quite a quick little car.
