Dave

No offence dave, but you're going to need more than a CAI to knock off 0.5sec in the 400m.
I think the figure is around 20kw or thereabouts more to get that kind of time.
I do hope you run close to a 14, but i'm just being realistic.

Im fairly confident that i can do at least .3sec faster with just a better launch and 1st to 2nd change

True, but there is a limit to how much you can cut off just by a good launch and gear shift, you'll eventually need to employ the use of a stronger clutch etc. but im sure you know that.

to get .5 sec down the quarter in my attesa, i needed an extra 30kws at the wheels, and that was with consistant launches and gear changes.

and even when i was testing how to launch the car, when i first went, it didnt really make a difference how the gears got changed, being realistic you'll be lucky to get a .1sec difference with good gear changes.

this is just experience talking

Ill be doing shitloads more work than that.

Mods will be as follows:
Top end,
Fully reconditioned head inc, modified camshaft, all new valves, porting and it will have to be shaved aswell which will bring the compression up to about 9.5:1

Bottom end,
All new acl flat top pistons(1.0mm oversize), bearings, rings, Balanced and linished crankshaft(pistons, flywheel and clutch will be balanced too), it will be bored to 2.5 to 2.6 ltrs(the guy doing it still has to work out what it will be but it will definatley give me 100cc more(2.5ltrs)

Management will be a full custom tune from noss

Allready have 75mm AFM and 3in intake, extractors 21/2in exhaust and K&N pod

Engineer said he would be very dissapointed if it didnt do a 14 secound pass as it did 15.8 stock apart from previous "already haves"

Ill keep you posted

It all depends on your ignition map.

11.5:1 is usually quite safe on 98 octane.

Was it fresh fuel?
How much was it detonating?
Try retarding your distributor 2-3 degrees and see if that helps.

detonating/pinging/knocking is not what you were experiencing then.

Detonation is an audible "rattling" like glass marbles in a tin can, when i was unfortunate enough to experience it one day by mistake (doing some ignition map tweaking after i had removed the scv's, far, far too advanced timing) i knew what it was straight away. I did not experience any loss of power; previously that morning (when ambient temps were like 5 deg C) i didn't get any audible detonation and it felt fucking fantastic to drive, but that afternoon when ambient temps were up around 20-25 deg C and heatsoaking the engine bay in traffic, it was then very noticeable audibly.

Google "detcans", build a set then go for a drive and listen out for the tell-tale rattle under load.

but i dunno why it does it...i can't find anything on how to make a detcan, and what on earth is that :P.

It will probably be a couple of months till i get to go on the strip, the motor wont be finished for another month and then ill want to run it in before the 1/4 mile.

15.2 mmm im hoping for better than that as is my engineer ;D

you have to remember i ran 15.8 basically stock ;)

Hello all, long time no see!

I finally got my car back together and headed out to willowbank for some testing on what sort of improvements my mods would give me.

Now i didnt run a 14 second pass as i hoped for but i came painfully close :(

My best possible time with perfect launchs and shifts(i was chirping 3rd) was 15.19@152kph.

I got my 60ft time down to 1.9

I soo hope noss can tune it to get a 14sec pass

That's quite good going on the assumption that you were running a std ecu, as it would have definetly been running rich even with higher compression.

I'm guessing when tuned it'll be good for high 14's.

In for current mod list too.

Did you get rid of the useless 7kg vibration damper in front of the aircon condensor, near 2 front bolts on the cross member? you can't miss it, it's a cylinder held on by 2 brackets either end.

Don't let the opinions of the average man sway you. Dream, and he thinks you're crazy. Succeed, and he thinks you're lucky. Acquire wealth, and he thinks you're greedy. Pay no attention. He simply doesn't understand.

to be fair, it wouldn't be ANTRX if we stayed on topic.

and if someone wasn't cranky at Chr1s for something he said...
