Air Conditioning Compressor Fittings!
« on: Mar 10, 2013, 11:42AM »
Hi Guys

I know there are a few threads of various topics at the moment on here that may be more technical so hopefully mine requires a little less time and focus.

As you know Dano's car has no air-con. I picked up a whole bunch of parts from an elderly guy who was wrecking his Corsair Ghia. Really nice dude, has been into cars his whole life. Even made me lunch whilst I was pulling parts off.

Now I was able to get all the air con parts except the compressor as I have been told to purchase this new.

My question I guess is

What are the size fittings for the Pintara air conditioning hoses that both go to the compressor from the condensor. Similarly are they shared between any other nissan models, or models in general that you know of????

I am looking for new compressors on ebay and there are a lot. I'm thinking of going a common make (like a Commodore) but I dont' if the fittings are the same size or different.

Problems you'll run into with a different compressor manufacturer is going to be mounting it to the car, and keeping all the bits and pieces out of the way. If you decide to use a mounting plate, you'll need to make sure that there is a belt long enough to suit the extra length you would need. Also make sure wiring and air con hoses can run where you need them to without interference.

Is the car sr20? if so you could look at a pulsar compressor and then get it rebuilt before its put in.

I was going to private pm you soon so you answered my prayers haha. Thanks Kranzy. It's an SR20 so I thought about a pulsar air compressor. Realise about the longer belt etc. I just want to get a new compressor but that is able to be sourced easily and I was concerned about mounting. I was going to weld together a bracket but it may be easier (for a straight belt also) to stick with a pulsar compressor.

Do you know if the pulsar compressor fit the inlet and outlet fittings for our U12 pintara's. Or is my better option to go to the wreckers and get the inlet and outlet hoses for a pulsar and then my hoses from the condensor to the evaporator and dryer I can still use.

I am aiming to get this done for under $500. I picked up a good condensor and pipes for $50.

Also, is it possible to clean the pipes and condensor yourself or do I need to take it to a air con specialist

Where are you located? You could come and have a look at my car.

What I did was grabbed a compressor and the two compressor hoses from a pulsar. I then had a shop join the sr20 compresser hose to the u12 hoses so all the bends/joins all worked and fitted. Made the job very easy.

From memore the u12 hoses connect differently to the sr, im thinking ones a 90º bend to the compressor and the other isnt. Cant really remember 100%.

I'm in Sydney, NSW

I understand what you are saying. Use the U12 hose but for the first 30cm of length have a pulsar fitting extend out of the compressor for both.

I'll hit up PGA forums and see what they say as well. The most expensive part besides the regas and compressor purchase I think is the making of the metal hoses?

I remember you telling me you replaced the expansion valve in the evaporator? Is this a standard U12 aftermarket item or can you go for any make. Guessing they are specific to different models but could be shared across a range.

Thanks Kranzy.
