Best Food - Name your places
« on: Oct 22, 2007, 11:23PM »
As the title, name what places you found had best food of the group and it goes something like this - (add more groups, like indian, indonesia, [language filter smackdown]got, brasilian, whatever !)

Chicken - Dougies at hurstville, their burgers are insane

Greek - Santorini on rocky point rd ramsgate or Eleni's kitchen on Lygon st (melbourne)

Kebab: Brothers Kebab in rockdale/banksia on princess highway

Yeeros - Victoria Yeeros in marrickville

Seafood - Lugarno Seafood

Jap - sushi train in the city ? LOL only place i've ever been to for jap.

Modern Australia - Pancakes on the rocks

Thai - I-Thai at darling harbour next to cockle bay whalf

I want to leave this worldwire/nationwide as people can try it when they travel !!

Best 2.30am Sunday morning feed - Cafe 21 at the Treasury Casino in BrisVegas - they'll give you creme brulee and fries to eat together without batting an eyelid.

Steak - Big jons @ sans souci....

didn't know i had a steak joint....  :o  LOL

anywho, for greek in melb: stelactite's (or sumthin like that) - its on the corner russel and some other street.... its open 24/7 or sumthin rediculous like that! UBER good after a nite on the booze!  ;)

burgers: grill'd - there's one in st kilda and in chapel st (melb)

not the best quality food, BUT: anyone remember "sizzlers" that u got a cheese toast when u're shown to your table? it was the best! well that was like 10+ years ago.... :P

There's heaps of them in Qld, and the reason for the toast is to fill you up on cheap bread so you don't eat as much off the salad bar!

you can buy the pre-done cheese toast in the garlic bread section of the supermarket.. about $4 for a packet of 6.. put it on a pan cook both sides for a few minutes and you're done.. very tasty.

food wise.. bimbos in fitzroy is awesome, as is umagos, also in fitzroy. they're both pizza joints and they're both awesome but for different things. bimbos is simply the atmosphere of the place and the $4 pizzas monday -> thursday.. umagos has to be some of the best pizzas you can buy anywhere.

you can get some very nice meals at the steak & crabhouse in woody point (@ the belvedere hotel) a little pricey though.

the union hotel, also in fitzroy, does fantastic food, prices are pretty good too.

you can also make the toast yourself at home.. half margarine, half parmesan cheese (the stale stuff out of a plastic bag will suffice) mix it up well, then butter one side of a thick piece of bread. place in a pan or on the barbie cheese side down, cook til golden brown and it's just as they have it in sizzler.

No. No. once you have tasted it when made with fresh bread in your own kitchen, you'll never go back. And really, it's just a mix and a slather away from your little store bought stuff =P

Haha on the topic of Nando's... I LOVE THE SHIT!!! Its so nice, Chickin loins with lemon and herb tang, comes with chips. I love them, too bad there arent that many here in SA compared to Melb.

Same as Starbucks, even though it isnt food. 5 on the one street we stayed in Melbroune last visit, im quiet sure theres only 3 in the whole of SA LOL!!!

theres a noodle place here called yummy noodle box. surprisingly, it actually is yummy! they make a bonza black bean beef.

a great place for steak is alexandras new orleans cafe. they also have good $5 cocktails.

for chinese you cant go past the new china dragon. best value for money.

best pizzas are at the bargara beach hotel.

i think thats it. oh and theres a good indian place too but i cant remember the name of it.

Arguments raged for years as to what to call the timezone
Moscow Time?
Comrade Time?
In the end they all agreed.

Try Billy Chus at adelaide airport, like wok in a box but the thai chicken curry is fantastic most days.

Yiros - Savvas yiros on unley rd, or the falafel house on hindly for a late night feed

Anything on Gouger st is good, lots of chinese, japanese, malaysian, italian, argentinian etc but look out for little river korean, you get a hot plate in the middle of the table and cook up you own all you can eat meats, veges etc, Theres also Gouchos, the steaks are 600 to 800 gramers and cooked perfectly
