Title: Speaker Wire
Post by: BILL*69 on Jun 13, 2008, 01:02AM
What do the audiophiles recommend as a suitable size wire gauge for speakers running off an amp, recieving about 130w RMS? Im not skimping out on this gear, so i will be buying quality thick gauge speaker wire for both pairs of splits.

14ga? 12ga? 18ga? who knows, but i dont trust what came with the speakers anymore. rather do it my way.

ALso, what do peeps recommend as power wire from battery to dist block. In total, system will be running about 1300w RMS, but would i really need 2ga from the battery, and 4ga to the amps? one amp is 520w RMS@4ohm, other is 800w RMS@2ohm. I was thinking 4ga to dist block, and 8 ga to amps would be fine, but what do the pro's think.

I was using this site as a ROUGH guide. http://www.the12volt.com/info/recwirsz.asp (http://www.the12volt.com/info/recwirsz.asp)

anything bigger than what comes in the box with the speaker will do. as for your amps a 2AG would be perfect, I dare say you could get away with a 4 gauge seeing as they are good quality 'efficient' amps.

Id use around 18ga, thats what im using for my splits, they are getting 200rms, and it does them fine.

What brand are the amps? Personally, id run 2ga to the boot then split into 2 x 4ga
