U12 members spring,strut/suspension setups.
« on: Feb 20, 2012, 10:25AM »
Hey guys, let's see if we can find the best possible setup for our rides, what's everyone running on their u12s ?

For example, I'm running:
Stock struts and springs
Full whiteline bushings front and rear
24mm front whiteline sway
20mm rear whiteline sway.

Now, I'm just curious of options.
What's a good strut and springcombo ? Fuck that king spring shit off.
I'm going to go with lovells superlows, but no idea of struts to go with them, they don't make aftermarket shortened struts.

Now, a lower car has a lower centre of gravity causing less body roll ? Am I right ?
Also, I don't have an LCA brace as I sold mine to Matt, also, no strut braces.

So what's everyone else running or recommends ?

lol... no need to rush.  I suppose you'll only make about 5 sets, and some guy from the states will make something similar at $20 cheaper but dissapear once he gets money  :P
but seriously, good stuff Adam, would be nice to have that option for the serious driver.

I've got king springs.  Can't see what the negativity is about there?  They do the job are cheap and easy to fit, no different to lovells really just yellow v blue.
Combine that with some swaybars like you have on your list and you'll be sweet.
Biggest thing I noticed was changing the wheels/tyres.  You dont realise how much of the little bumps a deep tyre takes out, likewise the difference in corners is clear too.

What's wrong with king springs ? I just don't trust shit that is pumped out of the factory like sausages, normally it means that quantity exceeds quality. Lovells may be stiffer also, but I'm not sure. What strut combo would be good ? Pedders are a 20% mark up on performance from oem replacements such as Monroe,

in my opinion, for the average street user that wants a nice mix between handling and comfort, you can't go past munroe gas/sens-a-trac and king springs. ultra low at the front, super low at the rear.

best handling upgrade i ever did was the whiteline swaybars.

I want slight bit more suspension rather than comfort, I have the whitelines on and installed the front chasis brace with whiteline bushes.

what car do the front ultra lows come from ? I know the n14 rear superlows fit our rear....

I have access to S13 stuff through a friend / ex-work colleague that owns/runs Shockworks. The rears are my focus at the moment; the conversion kit hopefully will be a few simple mods to the rear hub (cut the tube off housing the rear shock, drill a couple of holes, bolt on a U shaped bracket) and bolt up the rear coilover assembly.

The kit won't be expensive (at a guess, < $100), his Neotech coilovers for S13's are about $1150 from memory.

So ive done the research for superlows.
According to King part numbers in cheezels thread

Front Superlows - KDFL-01 which are Nissan NX coupe lows.
They also make superlows, so would that make it ultralows for us ?
Rear Superlows - KDRL-50Sl which are Nissan Pulsar N14s superlows.

Lovells spring part numbers for these springs are:

Front - CFS-13 (nx coupe lows)
           CFL-13 (nx coupe superlows)
Rear - DRL-51 SL (N14 Pulsar superlows)

just for anyone who wants superlows.

Superlows for our cars stangley enough are "Nissan Nx Coupe 30mm Lows"
Nx coupe front and rear lows are superlows for the u12/ua.

Its amazing what you find when you match part numbers, I wander if struts would fit......

Dude, standard lows are superlows for us, they also make superlows so in theory that should be ultra lows for us.

They don't make super lows for anything in Nissan.

I think it was the standard lows for the capri turbo - KFFL-15?

3) Full Height Adjustable (full threaded casing)
4) Pillowballs with Koyo spherical top bearings (made in Japan bearings)
5) Cold Wound, Heat treated Coils
6) Customizable spring rates, at NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE (plan for roughly 14 days for delivery on custom orders)

They dont mate up 100% - no access to rear camber tops once the coil is in, and i believe a bolthole needed widening?

The front faired a bit better though. Cant remember what exactly.

Keeping this open as its informative.

I don't know much about understeer/oversteer etc I just know more braces with bigger bars are better when balanced.

How would it pan out using a front 27mm sway with a 20mm rear sway and rear strut brace ? Dropped on superlows and good struts ? I know if you have the front end too stiff it will cause understeer ? Will the rear strut brace make up for the extra large front sway ?

Quote from rake
"So, the good news? Front U13 suspension (and concequesntly coilovers etc) are a straight proven boltup. Maybe a little bit shorter (no more than an inch I'd guess) but no big since lowering anyway.

The bad news? Rears are COMPLETELY different. No hope in hell of U13 gear fitting a U12 here, unless it's an Attesa. Dam you nissan for going this whole integrated hub/spindle/inser tube wtf bullshit design. Seriously, what.

I wonder how the AUDM / U13 FWD rear crossmember/subframe thingi compares to that of an Attesa? It looks like it'd accomodate a diff and driveshafts.

Hmm.."

only front coilovers will fit with no modding necessary providing its the FWD setup.

So im guessing, front u13 FWD coilovers with rear shortened stuts and superlows are the way to go....

gonig on this from Vithy

"U13 coilovers do fit! But as the distance between the 3 bolts on the top of the upright are not all equal length ( 2 are 10cm, 1 is 11cm or something like that) the camber tops cant be installed in the correct way with out the tower tops being redrilled. Which is not really an issue the coilover still functions and mounts in 100%. And as there are camber bolts in the bottom from factory anyways u can still achieve useable amounts of camber anyways. You just need to make sure the blokes that do ur wheel alignment have an idea of what they are actually doing otherwise if they try and adjust the camber using the camber tops u end up wid a shit load of castor and lots of setting changes u were properly not after."
