Title: Fitting U13 seats into U12
Post by: SR20ME on Jun 14, 2013, 01:17AM
Hi guys

I got myself one U13 SSS seat and am getting another tomorrow. This topic has been raised before and I have searched and read the various threads but no real detail is evident on anyone that has succeeded to install U13 seats in a U12.

I guess my questions are for those that have taken this path before me :

1)Did you make a steel bracket and use the existing U13 Seat rail and bolt the rail onto the steel bracket where the steel bracket was also secured to the floor?
2)Did you swap the seat on the U12 rail by altering the mounting points on the U13 seat (once detached from the rail).

I think the U13 SSS seats are a fantastic 2nd hand swap and hopefully they will turn out well!

Sounds good mate. U13 seats are good, especially in the series II SSS

I think some people have fitted J30 Maxima seats into a U12, shouldn't be too hard.

Take some pics for us when you do it.

Will do Budgie, hopefully can make a sticky thread. Yeah I had a look on youtube. The easiest way that I think this is done is to bolt a rectangular base to stock car rails (in this case U12 seat rails) and then mount / bolt the seat onto that rectangular base.

I'm actually thinking of getting two more U13 SSS seats 2nd hand and putting them in my hyundai just for comfort. Their support overall is excellent and when I had my U13 Attessa it was a proper sports seat, you didn't roll around just with the comfort of a more luxury type seat.

So I have unbolted the drivers seat and repainted it after sanding off rust scale. It had been in a garage for many years so you can imagine it was pretty bad (for a seat anyway). Lucky I saved it in time.

Upon pulling the drivers seat apart I noticed that whilst one seat rail comes off one side, the other attaches to the bottom frame of the seat and once you remove that then the frame and support for that bottom seat is removed. So you need to either use the existing rail or make a bracket for the side that would otherwise be attached. Then you have to make sure it would still match up with the holes.

I'll keep searching for methods people have used to fit seats. Any ideas put them here :)

I started fitting the drivers seat up today in my car. It was interesting. It bolts up to 2 of the Pintara / Corsairs stock holes diagonally across each other. It almost is a good fit with not much adjustment. I need to make a spacer at the rear hole (seat rail nearest transmission tunnel) with approximately 12mm in thickness. The front corner nearest the door just needs a slight extension. Will continue and hopefully take some photo's and get this up as from what I can read on the forums, this has only ever been successfully done by two people.

One seat done already finished up today. Ended up not to hard in design, just a lot of drilling and cutting brackets with my angle grinder. Still uses the original rail and as I said before mounts to two original pintara seat mounting threads. Also got the seat to be perfectly straight which is harder than you probably think!

Will do the other one tomorrow and take some photo's and put it in the thread. For you guys who have a bit of time and U12's, its a great upgrade considering the price of 2nd hand seats. The U13 SSS seats are the best bucket sports seat I've sat in (without being a racing harness altogether).
