soccer's a sport that I don't care if Someone's playing South Whocares, but once you put Australia in there, I take an interest. I was moderately riveted to the penalty shootout.

Well done, Australia.

Myself, being a HUGE soccer fan (so is chad so im waiting for it :P), After seeing Greece go through Euro 2004 that made me cry, now Australia ! it feels better

Quote
i was jumping around like a 2 year old through out the shootout....

hahaha im sure i can relate to that as well :P, After 32 years of hiding, we finally came out ! but i think we will do decent in the world cup and leave a mark with some of them. Our playing style is very aggressive which i like very much, it's fun and entertaining to watch, unlike aston villa :P...

So off we go  ;D

Greatest game I have ever seen.

Simple.

I was so proud of the Aussie's... I got something in my eye as I finished my lap of honour up the drive way and back.

Its about time Australia demonstrated to the world that we can play world class football.

Oh... and man... Harry had an awesome game!

OHHHH YEAH AUSSIE'S YOU LITTLE BEAUDY!

What a corker of a match. I have never been so glued to a single game. Every run forward was exciting. I wonder what it was like to be there. Worth the ticket price I'm sure!!

Yeah, when Aloisi netted the final penalty I jumped up and headbutted our light in the family room. Stupid low ceilings.  ;D

So who's up for a national antrx cruise to Germany!! ;D

Chad

ps, Chris what do you reckon about Niell getting man of match. I would have put Kewell and Emerton/Vidmar before him!
First a Silver TRX, then a White TRX...whats next? Game Boy-Clear style TRX?

i think chipperfield played a good even match, but perhaps on overall performance, i would have picked emerton... but kewell was the difference, as soon as he came on, australia changed...

and yea... im up for a cruise to germany  ;D

hahaha i knew chad would reply to this..

Hmm i was so happy of neill even though i favour him as he's one of my favoured players, emerton also had an awesome game, it's hard really they all played well ! but harry was too good on his role..

I think emerton's playing style doesn't suit australia though, he plays abit... too pressing, which is good because he'd match up well with cahill (up-coming machine)..Viduka had a good game, he played the way uraguans did, glitching the free kicks, he did well..

Neill did some awesome defending i must say, and that run at the end got me panacking, although he was there to save it :P..

GUUS FOR PM !

I reckon the Aussies deserve everything they are currently recieving, but they need to work on their bloody corner deliveries!!!!

dam how many corners did we have and ......

now world class teams will actually score from corners, and thats waht we need to do to be remotley competitive in GER 06!!!

oh when we scored that Penality i was laying on the couch and when it hit the side netting of the Keepers left i was up and jumping. Knocked my drink over at the same time aswell, mybad :'(

We just need to swing the corners out towards the penalty spot, they curve in too rapid where the keeper can reach them..

yeah have to agree with that, just need to whip them in a little lower aswell, maybe get a diving header or deflection.

dam, cant remember who it was but after a deflection of a corner we had an open shot and instead of doing a one touch and shooting we decided to two touch and run out of time.!

oh well, just need to pin point these little things to become more competitive, but WERE GETTING THERE and its an exciting Prosper!

Great game, great to watch, I loved it.

I heard something about the Uraguay coach throwing the soccer ball at some aussie players head when it went out of bounds? is that true?

Yeah it is Andy, we had a throw in and the coach picked up a spare ball and threw it into the back of his head.

I was at the pub standing on the pool table hi-fiving and hugging random people when we won.  then two blokes started playign drums in the pub and the crowd didn't stop singing and chanting for about 15 monutes after the match.  Sensational.

Yeah, its turns out that the Uruguay coach has spat the dummy twice before, once picking a fight with a ref, and once shoving a player on the field...

Did you see that brawl the other night? I cant even remember the countries  ::) Saw it on the news yesterday....they were also playing for a spot in the world cup. Anyway, when the ref blew the whistle at the end, massive brawl ensued...it went into the tunnels where they enter.

Turkey v Switzerland in Turkey was the match.  Turkey won 4-2, but lost overall as Switzerland won 2-0 in the first leg.

The only other qualifiers played were

Trinidad & Tobago v Bahrain - T&T won 2-1
Spain v Slovakia - Spain 6-2
Czech Republic v Norway - 2-0

27 of the World cup spots were already filled so these last five games were to fill the remaining spots.

i think we have an awesome chance, we now have the confidence to match the talent, its just that every world cup qualifier we are in, we go in with high confidence, only to be jammed, and put our confidence down, then its another 4yrs worth of work just to get the confidence back

thats confusing man, i dont think teams change the way they play their natural game, only adjust it to suit the opposition

no stick, im saying that different teams have different gamestyle play, and it can really affect the teams..

for example, italy and greece are very defensive teams, we lack attacking flare so we just defend because were good at it, when we see the right time, we counter-attack which can or not be succesful, teams like brasil are on you on the time attacking and attacking and more attacking because that's what their best at, skill.

meh, fair enough, kinda makes more sense this time, i dont think we exactly lack attacking flair, rather, we just dont play that way, like you said, counter attack style!

australia are in the middle of the too, we arn't better at attacking or defending, it's a mix.. but we'll see  :)

kinda reminds me of CPL, how australian clans play more campy and the american clans are agressive

Ronaldo never said he was going to break the goal scoring record against us, he said he wanted to break the record for most World cup goals ever scored, he needs seven more or something like that.

That's the same piece of information on 4 different sources, watch the world game on SBS on sunday, they were having a discussion about it before going onto international results.. that's where i saw it.
