Option 1 or Option 2 ???
« on: Apr 7, 2011, 02:11PM »
alright guys ive been thinking and i will do 1 of the following.

Option 1. drop DE head onto SOHC block, but that would mean, getting rid of my 270 cam, 8.8mm leads, stainless CAI, rx7 injectors, retuning chip and whatever else would need to be done.

or

Option 2. keep the sohc ka24e and drop my 270 cam in ?

in terms of power what would be better ? i know the DE gets higer comp but will result in using stock cams and no CAI.

most of you guys should know my build by now, so what would be better ?

1 vote for 2, you should still be able to use the intake..

If you want to put a DE head on, why not just buy another head and e block and build it up while you drive around with the stock engine for a while?

IMO, putting a DE head on an E block isn't worth the effort by itself. If you want to do it, you might as well spend a few more dollars and do the supporting mods to get the most out of the engine.

my 2 cents anyway.
Datsun boys, we like 'em fast, so we drop 'em low, heavy on the gas!

I agree with the Fuzz, build it up if you have the time.

Going DE route you should still be able to use the stainless CAI, it only sits about 90mm lower.
Wiring is a bit of a mission though.

Considering the stuff you have already I'd say the E will do you fine for the least effort.

get your old man to rebuild the motor with high compression pistons and rods from the usa, the dollar is going fucking great guns at the moment, its the perfect time to load up on shit from the usa.

http://www.atomicspeedware.com/

^^ has arias, eagle, cp and supertech, although looking at the prices, they're a bit more expensive than i remember, i thought you used to be able to buy a full set of pistons for $1100, unless those prices are for a set of 4, not each?

edit: confirmed those prices are for a set of 4. the prices then are bloody excellent!

Seconded for rebuilding the SOHC to get some experience. I wouldn't do a majorly high compression build first though....max 10.6:1, even then you'll have to run it on PULP and pull some timing out.

80% of your parts you'll be able to get from the US, and as noss said, $1 AUD = $1.05 USD so excellent time to buy.

SOHC ka's are cheap these days, buy yourself a second complete motor and go nuts.
