On the way home i hit an owl.
« on: Feb 20, 2005, 10:22PM »
Yeah it just flew in from the left, made a soft thudding sound against the front grille, i look in the rear view and saw a few feathers and i kept going a little slower than before (don't ask me why, it's just what you do when you hit something with a bunch of other people looking at you). I went for another 5-8 minutes and then i noticed a part of a wing flapping in the breeze but i couldn't stop because of the set of lights i was at and theres not really anything i could have done so i kept going until i got home.
One there i proceded to get it out from under the grille. It seems to have cracked the grille a bit but to be honest i am more concerned about the owl. It was a beautiful bird indeed. Can anyone identify it for me?  :(

Here are pics of what i found.

Again if i could get a hand with the resizing please that would be excellent thanks guys

For those that are going to comment about this, i couldn't give a flying fuck if you see my number plates because they are getting personalised tommorow :D

Dude shrink the photos. They're too large to view properly!

Edit: you can't do it, bah. Ohwell. If you have Winxp and use a digicam regulary get a XP powertoy called "Picture Resizer", google for it. Just a tip.

Sucks about the bird though. Even though I can only see one feather at a time.

a few weeks ago simon was driving home at about 10.30 and he had his arm resting on the door with the window down. he said he was just driving along when he suddenly got this huge pain down his arm from about his elbow. turns out an owl had flown straight into his arm! it knocked the poor thing out a bit but it got up and flew away. apparently thats supposed to be good luck....

i dont think its an owl i think its a tawny frogmouth.

in future i think it might be an idea to use the spoiler tags for people that dont want to look at pictures of dead animals. i think it'd also be an idea to just not post pics of dead animals.

we really should incorporate a rule that all images should be resized to 640x480. this forum dosent handle images very well... i mean you have to scroll right down to the bottom if you want to move the image horizintally, then scroll back up again to view.

640x480 is too small.

1024x768 I feel is appropriate.

Unless the forums automatically resized pics to fit each person's screen resolution width and such.

Fair go! Not all of us have the latest you-baut 19inch monitors than can handle that sort of res.

My 17" LCD does 1280x1024... This laptop I'm on does 1280 x 800

Neither are the latest or greatest in technology either. Screens have been supporting higher resolutions for a long time now.

Time to upgrade!!

CRTs are getting phased out, prices on LCDs are dropping. At a LAN I did attend, one sponsor had a 8ms 17" LCD available for under $500.

i was gonna say, how did you go from roadkill, to statistics on people getting sideswiped arms, to monitor sizes??  :o

the only thing i've hit is a possum (although i still have eye witnesses say it could've been a coke bottle  ;D) either way, possums are evil.

i'd love to live new zealand for a week or so and just drive all day. it'd be mad fun swerving to HIT the possums instead of miss them. there aren't enough around here to do that....plus it feels bad hitting one  :-\ but they're a pest over there so its not frowned upon
