Automatic >> Manual Licence
« on: May 14, 2007, 01:57PM »

So as the title suggests I need to transform my Auto only licence into Manual for a potential job. . . I was wondering if anyone knew of the process, is it the same as getting your licence the first time if you already have your licence?? Do I have to do the WHOLE test again with all the manoeuvres or just a general drive?? All info would be great help as I will only have about a few weeks to learn from scratch. . .

. . . and before you all go out and flame me – the reason I originally had my auto licence is because I needed it real quick so I could go to TAFE otherwise I would have had my manuals.

Thanks in advance

you need to have the "drive" part of the test again...
the written part is waived...

i got my auto license because i was lazy and owned an auto anyway. With two years left on my p's my girlfriend got a manual and i drove it all the time without any problems. Now off my p's it doesn't matter what i drive. I'm not suggesting you drive a manual car on an auto license, just saying that i had no problems doing it.

If you're in Qld you have to resit the test whether you're on your P's or opens.

That pretty good I was paying nearly $70 when I learnt manual. Although I found out that I already could drive manual. Didn'y need teaching afterall, now I just have to fine tune it a bit and get gear changes smoother.

A long time ago it used to be once uve had ur licence for like 4 years + it automatically became manual/auto combined.. but that was many moons ago.. thank god they got rid of that because I know so many people who cant drive a manual to save their life!!

For what it's worth, going from Red Ps to Green Ps in NSW allows you to drive a manual. That is, the automatic-only restriction is removed from your licence.
