How to remove door panels? (u12)
« on: Aug 18, 2008, 11:46AM »
Iv'e searched but all i can find is how to remove the panels with manual windows, my stanza has auto windows and door locks. I have a decent system from out of my old 240 i want to put in, but i dont want to end up breaking part of it trying to do it without proper knowledge.

Edit: Nevermind figured it out.

1) there is the annoying clip holding the window winder on... take that off with a screwdriver (and some frustration).
2) unscrew the armrest (2 phillips heads)
3) pull off the surround on the opening lever.
4) pull edges of trip away from door carefully (plastic pop clips in the back)
5) lift up and out (easiest with door lock down and window down)

Install reverse

If you grab a rag or something similar and slide it behind the handle where the pins are open. It will catch on the pins and push it away and popping the spring off. Its 100 times easier to do than with a screwdriver.

Haha everyone seems to have their own method for removing that clip, I use a butter knife. :)

Yeah that is a good idea, I've never tried it, but sounds ideal.

I must have broken 3 handles by just getting frustrated and ripping them off... in the end i never used the clips, just some industrial bluetac to hold them on... worked awsome.

Does anyone else have trouble putting the panel back on where it doesnt clip down flush and gets caught on the top lip near the window?

Also used to use an old fork, bend the inner two prongs down and use the two outer prongs of the forks to pop the circlip!

You can buy tools designed to remove those window winder clips.

I use a small pick or a radiator hose removal hook thingy.

Alot easier...the controllers just pop out and unplug. The rest of the door is the same, screws in the arm rests and the handle.
