ok, so other than this being really farken cool, it may be overstepping a line i dont know.. but go to maps.google.com.au and type in your address.. it will give you a photo of your house in a thumbnail.. click on the thumbnail and it brings up your house (or everyone elses)

what is even more awesome, is that you can view everything in 3d, rotating around looking around the street, its like you're there in the street. freaken sweet!

just had a look at people's houses here at work, not all of them are there, but a lot are.

i think they have a car with a bunch of cameras on top of a little pedestal on the roof. i've seen the car driving around, but i thought it was a gps on the roof to get the correct location of streets and stuff for the maps thing.

Well that sucks, I just looked at my house and my garage door is open and you can see exactly how to rob us.

Is the Z in there too? We can sort of date the pic depending on if its there or not.

edit: Just had a look, can't see the Z but there's no TRX kit on the pinny so it must be sometime before december(?)ish...

Well, with about 10 nude sunbathers found from the satellite photos of Google Earth, if they're getting stuff in that much detail from cameras mounted to a car driving around (and past the beach?

) we should see a few more turn up.

EDIT: Well, that was a disappointment. The only roads they've got Street View for are the major highways. They only did one street through my suburb which passes at the closest point within about 400 metres of my house. I WANTED TO BE ON THE INTERNETS.

I checked it out a bit more thoroughly and they do seem to have almost all residential streets. The suburb where rathies, Ammerty etc. live is completely covered. My suburb actually has about 70% of the streets covered, but the one little section that isn't is the one around the few streets where I am.

I'm in Bendigo, central Vic, and most of the streets are done. You can only see my house from the nearest corner (got a shot of my car in the front yard, that's it)

Mum and Dad's is a pretty sweet shot - you can almost see the rego on Dad's car.

I can tell you, its definately not a car, the ol' country towns i spend time in, where i know they wouldn't be bothered driving there or even flying there in a plane coz some of them are the smallest towns in WA and they have these detailed photo's, I really doubt its by car...

my street looks to have been dne sometime in Dec/Jan. And its bin day, so it was a thursday

But the weird thing is my car is there, it must have been over the xmas/new years break, cos otherwise its parked at yooni

And just noticed you can see my shadehouse out the back using satellite view - fortunately you cant see my.......ferns

yeh i agree there. i was living in a flat across town near a sports club (30 sec walk for $3.50 pulse cans woot!

) and they put car spaces on my street to cater for the patrons and that was done in january, and the paint looks incredibly fresh in the pics

Even without seeing number plates, there are still a number of applicaitons for stalkers. i.e. you know what street someone lives on and what their car looks like. Provided it's a medium to small sized street with something less common than a white Falcon you have a good chance of figuring out which house is theirs.

That's all uh... strictly hypothetical, of course.

i checked this out last night, and i cant tell you the photos are not live updates. I went for a "walk" through my suburb and all of the roundabouts have dead grass ect(asif it was middle of summer), the servo near me which is 6 months old is not in the photos.

just to make sure it wasnt live updates in the US, i looked at the weather forecast in hollywood (raining) and the streets looked bright and sunny (like summer).

guess its not as intrusive as i first thought (i thought it was like a live video where u could follow cars/people/ect.

They are supposed to pixilate peoples faces, which as far as i can see, they have done a good job of.

As for stalkers, get over yourselves people, the world isnt out to get you. Sure if someone does take an interest in you/your house/street, chances are they are serious about doing a good job of it and if they want to see your house they'd go there for themselves, not use a 6-12 month old picture.
