How to remove pop rivets?
« on: Apr 28, 2008, 10:54AM »
Hey stooges,

One of my screen doors has 3 hinges that are screwed into the the door frame. Each of these hinges are pop riveted into the door (there's 2 pop rivets in each hinge meaning there is 6 all up).

Problem is, the first 2 hinges have ripped out of the door (so they are still screwed into the door but the rivets are still in the door frame).

Does anyone know of an easy way of getting them out? Is there like a pop rivet remover thingamajigee or do I have to bore it out or something?

I just want to get them out than pop rivet them back in.

Cheers   8) 8) 8)
Ill fight you. May even throw a bar of soap your way. Maybe a few wax strips and some clip on brembo brake calipers for your fooly sic civic.

I'm sick of my knob going all floppy and loose in my hand  :P
I've been on probation for 21 years, can't make a decision without consulting the wife first  ::)

Seconded, you'll have to drill them out. Just the head should be ok.

Just remember that you only need to drill as wide as the neck of the rivet, not as wide as the flange.

If you cant use a drill, worst case scenario is that you can use a hammer and chisel (a fairly sharp one), and hit the heads off.
