U13 5 Speed Question (LSD)

I've finally got around to chasing up a new 5 speed trans for my U13 Bluebird (FWD 2.4). I'm picking up the new (secondhand...) box tomorrow, but I've got a few questions...

1. How can I make sure it's the proper 2.4 LSD box?
2. How can I make sure it's not as knackered as my current one?

It obviously comes with a warrenty, but it'd be rather annoying to rip the old one out and find this one isn't any better.
Does anyone have any tips for changing the transmission?

If its out of the U13 and a KA tranny they are all LSD.

Even the KA powered U12 have LSD.

As for finding out if its nackered, guess you can pull the bellhousing off and make use no teeth are missing of the gears, or if the fluid hasnt been drained, drain it and check the oil for metal shavings, if all clean, can be one of 2 things, either they bet you to it and changed the oil before they sold the box, or the box is in good nick.

right on the money jono. and all u13 ka boxes were lsd.

Went to pick it up today (took ages, friggin' Monash FWY) and they hadn't pulled it out of the car yet...

Wasn't really a bad thing as I got to take a closer look at the whole car. The 'box seems to be in good nick, 180,000kms, so bit better than mine, and it came from a 100% standard car so hopefully driven slowly. I think my car was owned by a bit of a hero, must have liked his FWD burnouts. It's getting delivered tomorrow, so we'll see how it goes. Need the car for work this weekend. Price wasn't too bad in the end, all things considered.

They had this manual LX (sans gearbox :P) and a complete auto SSS (I think, had rear wing) too, so if anyone wants the details of the wreckers, I'll find their card.

Only comes with a 30 day warrenty, so I'd better stop typing and start installing!

Drove there in an '84 Nissan Patrol with a Holden 308 conversion... my god, what a truck. Makes my stiff-as-a-plank-of-wood U13 seem like a limo.

you can also pull the neutral switch which will give you a pretty good look inside

ohhh i hate you so much! ive been looking for a 5sp lsd box for ages now, i would kill for a $550 one, the cheapest ive found in adelaide was $990 and thats just bullshit!

Where abouts are you?

I'll see if I can get my current box rebuilt. There isn't much wrong with it, but I can't afford to have the car off the road for more than a day. So a swap was an easier option.

I've got a friend who can rebuild it, so I'll pass it along to him. If he can do anything with it, you can have it for the same price as I paid for mine if you're interested.

And yeah, I nearly had a heart attack when they said "$550" on the phone... :)

Umm the AWD box wont fit the FWD it thats why you are posting.
