Radiator Fans Actuator Sensors
« on: May 23, 2006, 01:02PM »
Does anyone know where the sensor is, that actuates the radiator fans when the engine runs too hot?  Or does anyone know what controls these fans to start and stop?  I've just finished putting everything back together in my U13 Attesa and the fans are continuously running even from a cold start.  It's good but it is really noisy when they don't need to be on when idling.  And yes the A/C has been turned off.  Any help would be muchly appreciated.  Thanks.

Not sure if the U13 are the same but with the U12's there is a coolant temp sensor that is wired to the ecu and the ecu then tells the fans to turn on or off.

You wouldn't know by any chance where this sensor is on the U12?  Is it in the water system or on the engine block?  There are a couple of sensors or what appear to be sensors in front of the condensor.  Anybody know what these are for?

The sensor on the U12 is at the back of the engine basically to the left of injector #1 (cylinder 1) there are two sensors, one is for the gauge and the other is for the ecu. That is for the KA24e though, other engines im not sure.

If its the sr20det then im sure crazzy will be able to help you.

Its for the SR20DET engine.  However this may assist.  Would it have anything to do with the ECU, ie. will my ECU require resetting after being disconnected for so long?  If so, anyone know how?

The CA and KA temperature sensors are on the thermostat housing, the one for the ECU has a plug similar to the injector plugs. AFAIK your ECU shouldn't need resetting.

Thanks Jono.  You're the second person who has told me the ECU shouldn't need resetting.  That's very reassuring.  I can now rule that out of the equation.

After downloading the ECU codes, it was confirmed that the radiator coolant temp sensor was having an issue.  Thanks Kranzy for assisting me in locating the sensor.  It appeared that the connector pins were corroded causing a bad connection.  After some filing of the pins, the radiator fans are now working fine.

They are ambinet temperature sensors.  My car has one, its used for the climate control.
