Modification Question
« on: Sep 21, 2005, 02:26AM »
Hi im a new member and just have a couple of queries:

I have done as much as possible with my '88 r31 manual pinny (pod, extractors etc) and have recently bought a ca18det engine with out looms and ecu.

To transfer this engine into my pinny i will need the ecu and looms obviously, but will it bolt in without too much fuss? I have tried searching, but have come up blank.

Also i am looking for a company that does bodykits for my car.

Any information would be greatly appreciated

Cheers

im in the middle of a ca18det conversion atm
the blocks are the same, so u can use the ca20 engine mounts
gearbox crossmember is the same, that bolts up sweet
u need the ca18det clutch, flywheel etc etc
there are about 4-5 brackets that need a bit of cutting/filing,  but this is basic, were not talking welding
will post more later. bit busy atm
ohh and dmd in bris is good for kits but itl cost ya big $$$
And there's not much I can say

what about the wiring and ecu are they the same?

do you need to upgrade the front break/susp to get legal prem?

suspension yes. 99.9% of pinnies stock sus is shot so...
brakes im yet to find out...compliance is late this week
its best to use the ca20e power steering pump too
jayz have you done any work to the engine?
best to change a few oil seals and gaskets whilst its off, get a new water pump and thermostat too.
you will need custom cooler piping and custom exhaust. so in a nutshell if you want to do it properly make sure you are prepared to spend the money...cuz its not as cheap as some will say

may be a list of budget will show how much the conversion will cost

engine: CA18DET $500-1000 depend on the cond, ready to pay more if low ks
engine mount: $400 if custom made is needed
all the pipe for the hose power street and such $400?
wiring the ECU from CA ??? aftermarket $1500+ tuning also to hook up with speedo.
intercooler with pipe $1500

then talking about recond the pump raditior and other $400
a set of new gasket plus one for turbo. a CA turbo gasket kit will cost around $120-180. the reast for the pinna will cost around $180?

custome exhaust. $800 for the mad bend with 2.5'
plus the break, susp,
you can work out the cost so far. and double the cost for unexpect items

and this is DIY for the most of your job

unless you know people. getting a ca18det half cut is more than 500 to a 1000. ~ prices are around the 2g mark...running with compression tests etc etc
