exhaust feedback
« on: Aug 21, 2003, 05:16PM »
Can anyone help me with a problem with my exhaust. recently i had the muffler exchanged because of a rattle at 2,500 revs. both accelerating and deaccelerating. now with the new muffler the noise is a deep feed back noise like heavy metal feedback through a sub with gain on max. the noise is accompanied by a slight vibration. feels like it is coming from the middle or towards the mainfold. i have had a massive loss in power recently but this noise has been around for a while. could it be a gasket?

I filled my car with Woolworths + petrol once and it's never been the same... the exhaust is noticably raspier and it lacks the power down low that it did have. I think it's gone through and dirtied everything. It's been a lot better since I've been using the BP Ultimate, but not 100% Any suggestions? I'm thinking cleaning the injectors.

rich my car has been a hell of a lot better since a dumped the oil, and replaced it with a low grade oil, filled the tank completely with bp ultimate and ran some injector cleaner through it. at first not much change occured but when i filled the car a second time without injector cleaner idle was smoother, response better. i worked the engine pretty hard for that first tank. a friend suggested this for a new oil change, fuel change and injector cleaner. beats me why but seemed it has worked. remeber if u havent got a chip then the ecu needs time to adjust to higher octane fuel.

I rekon Shell Optimax is crap. In my old escort I had VERY advanced ignition timing therefore it would ping something shocking unless i ran high octane fuel. Anyway, it would still ping a bit when I used Optimax and would stop if I put in BP Ultimate. I tried this out several times and with always the same result..

come to your own conclutions....

if i try optimax now with the car running good again then the chances of a dramatic change is minimal me thinks. mr trx have you tried bp ultimate? whats differences did u find between them if u have?

I just put a tank of optimax through my Corsair, and it ran pretty bad.  It stalled on me four times, when i slowed to a set of lights (from 60kmph or something) and was sitting there idling for a second, then it would konk out!  It never done that before, and its just had a major service (new plugs, etc).

Surprisingly, it runs better on Safeway + petrol versus optimax...

can i suggest it has nothing to do with the fuel you use. i had a rattleing problem at 2500rpm. came from the cat under the car. i thought the cat had stuffed up from the o2 sensor making the mixture too rich but it was in fact the dudes who put the exhust in left small metal fragments from the welding. once i got that removed the noise has gone....food for thought buddy.... 8)
