i have a 94 bluebird sss and the power antenna decided to pack it in... the motor works but the mast doesnt go down, i pulled it apart and couldnt find pick anything, the motor worked, the cogs moved and all that but still didnt work.... has anyone had a similar problem or any ideas on what could be wrong???
-
i dont even have my power antenna wired up anymore haha the radio still has very good reception though :P
-
It's most likely be the plastic bit inside the antenna they call the whip. It broke in mine, it cost me $90 to get a replacement part at nissan.
-
You can also get those whips from car audio stores. When I replaced the broken one in my ATTESA i used one for a J30 Maxima.
Was $30 or so I think, came with a new mast. When I fitted it, I also modified it so the antenna didn't go up so bloody high!
-
its jst it stays up so high and it knocks and stuff every time it wants to go down or up.... this 'whip', the plastic rod with teeth, is it something most power antenna have or is it a special part coz i was thinking of hassling an auto electrican for a length of it if it is the problem or do i need the whole mast with the whip inside??
-
Yeah the strip of plastic with the teeth is the whip. Yeah, what I bought was a mast and whip specifically for the bluebird. But if what Ryan said wirks, then I guess thats the better way to go.
-
so now to ryan..... will getting the whip fix my problem if the whip is snapped or is it one part (whip comes with mast)???
-
I remember going to nissan and looking to buy one for a Pinny Ti and it was something silly... like $100 luke, so I went to a local car audio place and they had some old stock, in which the J30 mast was in and it matched against the old mast I brought in off the ATTESA.
-
Ah righto, but are U12 and U13 antenna's the same?
-
I'm not certain mate, I would think they'd be close.
-
cheers for your help, the j30 maxima is $55 for mast and whip which i can get, im buying it 2moro.... what modifications do u have to do to fit it??
-
No modification is required just clean out all the old grease and pack new grease in there. A bit of a messy job.
-
probably too late but;
buy an aftermarket one from super cheap. i did it with my Ti. simple, easy and universal. (bit of autosol on the mast aswell)

thanks for the good tips. annoying that i gave away my spare aftermarket electric antenna with my old car just before the bluebird's one broke.
a tip in return: keep the accessories completely turned off while in an automated car wash until the wash cycle has completely finished.
