Anyone know if the AWD front outer CVs are the same as FWD ones? Who has replaced them?
-
i dont think they are the same, but you might get lucky with them
my advice is take them to get rebuilt
-
If you can take the shaft out yourself and take it to a CV specialist, you will save yourself a bit of money, rather than paying someone to do the whole job.
I believe that the CV joints themselves are generally a universal item (same joint used for lots of different cars), but the shaft length and splines on either end of the shaft are what makes a CV shaft unique to a particular car.
When we replaced the clutch in my brothers AUS U13, we took one of the driveshafts to a CV specialisist to get rebuilt (new joints and boots). It took them an hour and cost about $140 or $150.

definately the best option for your CV's
-
so its cheaper and easier to rebuild the rooted cv then?
-
yep, more than likely

Exactly what I'm going to do soon with my totally fucked passenger side inner CV...
