Schooling..
« on: Nov 14, 2007, 09:53AM »
Just thought i would bring back a few (not so) good memories lads...

Who is currently going to school? I have my last Yr 12 exam today at 1.30, then the journey is over for me...

Who completed year 12? Who dropped out beforehand? What subjects did you do?

I did Maths Applications, English Communications, Chemistry, Business Studies and Economics.

Would love to hear about you guys... Also, your respective grads/scores and TER's TEE's whatever your state calls them (if you can remember them).

Thanks boys.

school? when was that? :P

in year 11 i did maths b, english, ancient history, chem, physics and biology. i soon realised this was homo.

so in year 12 i did maths b, english, ancient history, health ed, study of society and physics. that wasnt much better heh. but then again i was one of those kids that give up on school and stuff, so my attendance was really good, but i didnt do any work heh.

i ended up with an OP of 17. not bad for doing shit all heh

I was accused by the deputy principle of being a pornographer because i printed a picture of a guy flashing a brown eye art class.
I told him to shove it and walked out three weeks before year twelve finals.
Went for and interview on the Monday and told the guy the story he said id make a great chef and i started work on the Tuesday. never looked back.
since then Ive done my cert III trade chef. cert IV advanced trade, cert IV kitchen management.
cert IV business management hospitality, cert IV training and assessment, cert IV front line management and am looking at a diploma in training and assessment next year if i can get the qld government to pay for it.

I want to get into teaching but I'm not too worried if I don't as I have a small clothing brand that I will probably work at making a bit bigger next year.

Hummmm...

Finished in 2001 (WTC attack!!!)

I did baby maths, english, literature, visual communication & design, information systems and multimedia design as a VET thingo.  Topped my area in VCD, and Info systems which pulled up what could have been a very average TER.

Enter was 80.3

Went to VUT for 3 years doing a multimedia design course, hated it in my final year (alot of contributing factors outside of uni).  Worked at a pool for 2 years full time, teachings and running the place at times, counter work... knew there was no future there.  Went back to uni this year, to do a 1yr Graduate Diploma of Pimary school teaching.

Thats finished, only have 3 days left of my final placement then i'm done with uni forever.  This year has been pretty tough going back to study.

Teaching some kids how to 'clutch dumpz' at a school near you :P

Oh, my youngest sister just had her final exam today... physics.  Shes a brain, will hopefully find a cure for some diseases or something once she completes the Biological Science (?? i think) degree that she will easily get into.  First dux of the school in our family mum is hoping ::)

i finished year 12 in 2003 and got a hugemungoeous UAI and went to uni to do a double degree in physics/mechanical engineering at UNSW. realised i was an absolute joke when it came to study and took up a trade, best decision of my life. mum took it hard when i told her i was dropping out, but she got over it when she realised what a good carpenter i had become (and how staunch i had become carnt). im sure you have heard it but dont take the HSC seriously mate, you have 40 years or so working and youre better off doing something you can wake up in the morning to, without injuring or mortally wounding your co workers.

Finished 2001 like budge. Did Standard English, 2Unit Advanced Math, 3 Unit Maths Extension, Physics, Business Studies, IPT (Information Processing and Technology) and thats it i think. Topped my school and got 84.5 UAI... pretty good considering i never studied :P

Went straight to uni doing Bachelor Of Engineering - Robotics and Mechatronics, did that for 4.5 years (lol... failures anyone? :P) finished with second class honours.

Was working at big w backdock nightshift while at uni... then did my placement at a company called IGT (International Game Technology) in the hardware engineering department (They make poker machines btw :P).

Just last month left IGT cause there was nowhere to go there... Now i work for SEW-Eurodrive, motor and gearbox company from germany. Im an applications engineer there (basically tell people the kit they need for their setups) but then going to the proper engineering department in 6 months once i familarise myself with the product.

Word of advice.... dont waste your time. Honestly, if you dont like the job, or there seriously is nothing to learn or advance, get out asap. There is nothing worse then going 6 months, a year, two years whatever.... looking back and saying... Fuck i wasted my time.

*sigh- Looks at IGT* Trust me guys, I know. SEW is hectic, and makes me wish i had gotten out as soon as my 3 months at igt were over.

Rant much? :P

just to put the public service into perspective for you all,  my kitchenhands have at best only finished year 12 and for the amount of work they do if you have ever worked in any kitchen, McDonald's for example, think of the amount of work you do there and halve it. that is how much they do in a day.
they work 8 hours a day not a minute more have all there breaks like clock work, five weeks holiday a year,  sick leave, family leave, long service after 7 years, ADO every four weeks, one of the best super deals and great salary sacrifice arrangements and they average 45-47k per year with a guaranteed 3% increase every year.
And in typical public service fashion they think they are hard done by
