Insight on gearbox oil seals L/R (Ka24e)
« on: Apr 22, 2012, 04:19PM »
So I had found out awhile ago when I searched for 2+ weeks for new left and right driveshaft seals that the TRX LSD has a much larger Driver side seal compared to that of any other ka box including the Ti LSD.

Now how does that work ? I thought the Ti and TRX's had the same viscous box ?

I took the seals to Supercheap, Repco, Autobarn, Bearing & Seal shops etc and they all only had the 1 size (smaller) seal for every box including the Ti LSD but nothing listed for TRX....

Than the journey forwarded to a genuine Nissan Parts Dealership and even they only had the smaller seal listed for every Ka24e box, they ended up just matching up the larger one to another seal and I used that....

Just abit of insight for those of future reference

The Ti and Trx LSD use the same shafts/seals. I can say that 100% as I have a mixture of the two currently in my car.

Well im using Trx driveshafts in a Ti box (except the bellhousing) and the seal in question is on the opposite side of the box to the bellhousing.

If anything there would be a difference between series and not models. So the change may have been date related.

In saying that last time i replaced that large seal i got it genuine through nissan and they're never mentioned that there was a difference in part numbers for it because i questioned them on it.

None of that makes sense.

The physical diameter of the driveshafts is no different between the TRX/Ti/T

Why would the seals be any different?

exactly my point, pans out that in all shops including genuine nissan only have listed the smaller seal, left hand i think, listed for both sides on all the pintaras.

I had to take my old fucked seal in than they matched it up to another, unknown to what it was matched up with.

Check my thread, I posted up two pics a while ago. I just took my seal in when I pulled it off and showed the guy - at Bursons the passenger side gearbox oil seal was listed as drivers side and vice versa, I believe.

Food for thought, but I was given the wrong one as well first time.
