I know this isn't what we normally drive, but I don't discriminate.

I am about to swap my 180sx for a 2002 VX V8 berlina wagon, only problem is the wagon has no second gear, and it's an auto. Does anyone have any ideas on what could be wrong and average fixing price, not sure if it is worth it. I asked a mate who is a wrecker and he said that auto gearboxes for V8s are about $2000 to $2500.

Any ideas, Cheers.

like won't shift into second at all?

if so, looking at a rebuild, clutch packs have probably gone for 2nd.

Well, i contacted the owner again, all the other gears work fine, just second doesn't. So it is still driveable.

I also talked to an auto transmission guy today and he said that if 2nd, 4th and reverse don't work it is an easy fix, otherwise it might need a rebuild. Luckily he has a rebuilt gearbox in store, and changeover will be about $1500 fitted.

So looks like it is gonna be a bit more expensive to fix, better than $2500 tho.

Don't pay that much for a wrecker gearbox.

It'd probably be a similar price for a full rebuild, and then you'll know the box will be good for a few years, unlike one from a wrecker which is a lucky dip.

Yeah, if I end up getting it I will definitely go for a rebuild, could get a shift kit installed at the same time.
