Im quite happy with it too With the stiff accelerator pedal & old repco filter i had quite a lot of lag, but now it's "almost" as good as no filter at all I did have a few problems though the filter is thicker then what i thought, far better quality, but i had to pull the cover out from the hindges (bout half way out) to get it to fit right & managed to thread one of the scrues in the process Not happy jan, but the car is running much better now. I almost didn't buy the dam thing though, the price on it was "$145" at witch point i turned blue n protected my wallet (well i could have bought a pod n made a CAI for that) but the guy said my 120 was about right for em & took off my 5% discount so i got it at $114 . I also ordered some more paint for the boot (dono if i mentioned it before but im redoing it since i was so tacky). My dash mat should be in same time as the paint so im all happy

Power ? There said to give between 1-4 Kw (with pods twice as effective as panels) but i doubt that you will notice it much. The main thing is that you have a lot less lag or better response. You rev the engine high n it takes a lot less time to reach the level & it's very noticeable when you drop from mid-high revs, because the car is still trying to suck in the same amount of air it was before, but no longer has half the vacuum power to suck it in, with normal filters there tends to be a noticeable delay from when you take your foot of the excel to when the car reaches idle. But ya i don't think you will notice the small power gain just the response.

with a Simota pod my car makes noticably more power, has better fuel economy (something like 30+k's more to a tank) and it sounds cool!

Id have to agree with Rich, my simota definatley increased power low down (although most people seem to get more higher in the rev range). Well worth the money, and the trip to melbourne to get!
Although my mum thinks my car is 'smoky' as a tiny bit of black smoke comes out the exhaust when I tramp it... ie- its running a little rich due to the pod.

yeah thats the problem with stickin opn pod filters huh? With all of the sensors on the intake that nissan gave us it makes things a little hard. Iv heard that you can severely decrease your fuel economy because the airflow meter senses that there is more airflow and goes into some sort of protection mode where it adds more fuel than neccessary. I think it's 2 stop leaning out at high revs and damaging the engine..
Atleast thats how I understand it... Maybe im wrong???

No, it compensates for the increased airflow of the new filter. Every car that is either stock or lightly modded courtesy of an air filter/exhaust will run rich with std ECU's as the manufacturer sees this as a safety net against low octane fuel.

hey budge just be sure to get your heat sheild done before summer hits i had my pod setup like that last summer and my car always got heaps hot (it is all my fault as i didn't sheild it)
in the end i just went and got a K&N panel filter and put the stock air box back in and no probs now

What kind of adaptor do you use again mat ? & as for you noss, can you really justify all that money on a ca20 ? with only around 82kw (with pod) how much extra could you possibly get ?

out of all honesty, i couldnt justify spending the money on the ca20e, as to do it properly would be more expensive than an rb20 turbo.
but if it were done right, these days, you should expect around a 50-60% increase in power with a properly matched turbo, good manifold, and properly tuned management. not to mention a cooler & exhaust.

I got mine from autobarn, its a VL commonwhore adaptor.
Designed to fit the RB30E and the CA20E RWD configs (although it fits all CA20E's). It has a square inlet area.
The inlet on my CA20E is perfectly round (not square like the VL's or R31's), so I had to cut away the excess metal to eliminate that extra resistance.

Im gonna continue this thread. The r31 has a VERY bad inlet piping from the filter. Both the ca20e and rb30e have very restrictive piping stock.
i have done the full kit on my r31 skyline pod and cai piping done professioanlly and on the dyno i recieved a very nice 8rwkws not to mention a smoother power curve over the entire rev range

you shouldn't need to drill holes in the adaptor if you bought the correct one in the first place.

how can i heat shield it.. Get one of your cuz's to sit in the engine bay and put his hands around the pod on the engine side of the filter. If he blows into it while doing this it will be like forced induction and you will waste everything on the road.

sorry to dig up old threds .. but pod filters are what this is all about ...
i puchased a maf adaptor today i am yet to drill the holes for it to fit onto my maf on my 1990 tr.x i have got the pod and everything .. 1 thing im concerned i am eventually going to get cai on it but untill then how can i heat shield it.. with a low cost .. something simple
My first partition consisted of a cardboard cutout cut to follow the enginebay bits to block engine bay radiation and hot air from being drawn into filter. It was covered in duct tape and insulation tape. After moving to metal it made no difference. Worked well. Simple and takes 5 minutes. You can laugh , or can benefit if you cannot be bothered full on CAI just yet.
